About the Publication

Global Risk Assessments: Issues, Concepts and Applications, Book 6

1. Global Risk Assessments, Inc. (GRA) is a privately held California-based corporation specializing in research, consulting, publishing and seminars in the field of international business environment assessment/political and country risk assessment and management.

GRA publishes Global Risk Assessments: Issues, Concepts and Applications, which is a book series containing original empirical, conceptual and applied knowledge/techniques articles intended to advance understanding of the international business environment assessment and management field. The publication covers theoretical, methodological, issues oriented and practical aspects of that understanding and seeks to foster the full development of the field known as political risk.

Contributions are welcome on a wide variety of topics that deal with practitioner and academic experience and research in the field. The boundaries of the material published in the GRA book series are not precisely defined, since unnecessary specifications may limit growth of knowledge. Innovative or interdisciplinary approaches with business and practitioner emphases are particularly encouraged. The publication aims to serve as a forum for discussion and cross talk among professionals in the field, especially the corporate and banking environment.

Contributions are also welcomed which bear upon the relation of this field with other fields such as government, foreign policy and relations, insurance, finance, and business strategy and policy. In essence, the objectives of the book series are to publish papers of exceptionally high professional standards which have the potential for significantly increasing our understanding of the field.

2. The series is being published in English by GRA throughout the world. Being consciously international in its editorial board, authors and readers, papers are welcomed from all parts of the globe. Because the editorial board is convinced that the development of the field involves publication of papers from as wide a range of environments as possible, papers will be reviewed in any major language and assistance will be given in the translation into English of papers accepted.

3. Articles in Global Risk Assessments: Issues, Concepts and Applications will be of the following kinds:

  1. Empirical research reports, containing new quantitative and qualitative findings.
  2. Critical surveys of the applied or research literature on selected topics.
  3. Theoretical contributions. Articles will discuss approaches which are conceptually interesting and reflect a quality of innovation and freshness.
  4. Applied contributions include articles which contribute to more effective managerial decisions.
  5. Examination of research methods, including modes of application and new techniques. Articles should describe relevant techniques - they are solid, based on experience, and doable.
  6. Brief reports, for example, exploratory and replication studies and technical notes.
  7. Reviews of books and other major publications in the field.

4. The book is part of a serial which is published on a periodic basis. Within each book there are both longer contributions (up to 6,000 words) and shorter papers (less than 1,500 words). The longer papers typically provide integrative overviews of the field which may nor may not contain previously unpublished data. The Editor also welcomes any suggestions for submissions which may fall outside the conventional format.

5. Manuscripts, including occasional solicited contributions, are normally reviewed on the advise of two independent referees, usually one practitioner and one academic. Blind review is undertaken if the author explicitly requests it and removes all identifying material from the manuscript. Authors may suggest possible referees (and their mailing addresses). Receipt will be acknowledged by return mail. Initial screening decisions on the appropriateness of the manuscripts to the book series and its review process are made by the Editor and all final decisions on publication are made by him. A decision about acceptability is usually possible within two months.

6. Submissions of a paper implies that it neither has been published elsewhere nor is under consideration by another publication, to include book, journal or magazine.

7. Book Reviews will range from brief book summaries to multiple book review essays and will include a Books Received Listing. Book reviews of selected new books and other important publications will be sought by invitation. However, readers are encouraged to suggest new books to be considered for review or older books that should be again brought to the attention of the field. Readers who are willing to be considered as reviewers should correspond directly with the Editor.

8. Papers and Book Reviews may be submitted via e-mail as follows:

Five (5) complimentary copies of the book will be provided each author. Upon request a complimentary copy along with an optional commendation letter will be sent to a person of choice (i.e. immediate supervisor, company president, academic dean).

To protect authors and journals against unauthorized reproduction of articles, Global Risk Assessments, Inc., the publisher, requires copyright assignment to itself on the express condition the author(s) may use their own material at any time without permission. On acceptance of a paper submitted, the author(s) will be requested to sign an appropriate assignment of copyright form. The author(s) consent, and approval for a suggested fee, will be sought before any applications to reproduce material are granted.
